Hill End

Nestling in the folds of the hills rising gently to the west of Oxford, Hill End offers visitors a quality of rural tranquillity that belies its proximity to the city. Set in 62 acres of beautiful, undulating countryside, the residential and Field Studies Centre contains a rich diversity of habitats including chalk grassland, marshland, developing woodland, ponds and streams. Much of the area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Originally established as an outdoor school in the 1930’s, Hill End has introduced generations of young people to outdoor learning and given many schoolchildren their first experience of spending a night away from home. Today, more than 70 years on, the centre continues to make its unique residential facilities available to schools as well as extending them to community groups, businesses and the public.

The centre also offers a wide range of day courses, training programmes and workshops
